The Truth about TS and Ticket Master

Reason why Taylor Swift and TicketMaster had the whole fiasco? Do you want to hear the deep dark secret? Really deep and dark? They didn't charge enough for the tickets... That would make TS look like a money grabber. But really, that is what they needed to do. So for in order to not make TS look like a money grabber. They priced the tickets too low and then blamed Ticket Master when their servers crashed, and let middle men make money, by buying up the tickets and reselling them on the black market for the price the market would bear.

Of course it would be controversial, if like the cheapest tickets cost $1000. But really that would be the way to go. And if the tickets didn't sell out- which is doubtful, even at that price. Well then they could lower them at a discount. It is more about supply and demand, than being greedy. Because TS and her team didn't want to be seen as greedy, they didn't charge enough for the tickets and blamed TicketMaster for this fiasco. 

The thing is. If you don't want to appear to be greedy. That's a sign that you are worried about being seen as greedy. Which means you do what to do, to hide that greed. It's not about greed. It's about supply and demand, but I guess a smart person knows to also spread the wealth around. Make even the middle men happy? at the expense of the evil ticket selling corporation TicketMaster.

Summary: Really, next Tour just charge $1000 per ticket for nosebleed seats at a TS concert and we can talk about how much you have to pay to see TS. Which is what is going to happen in the end anyways for most fans. Just TS and her Team look better (less greedy) and the middle men (ticket resellers) get their money, and Ticket Master looks bad. Got to blame someone for the fact that everyone's daughter wants to go to the TS concert! and there is only so much of TS to go around! Is this her last tour for awhile?  Does she want to start a family? Inquiring minds want to know...

Liar, Liar pants on fire!

What we say matters. Whether it is true or not. It might become the truth. That’s how we/people/Americans work. When the man, who lost the 2020 election, said, this election was stolen, his followers believed him. There was no evidence, of widespread voter fraud. It seems this man opened his mouth and words came out, without any evidence. And this was a man, who could have had evidence. But he didn’t. Many people knew right away that the man was not telling the truth. But his followers wanted to believe him.

They didn’t want to believe that he was leading them astray.

Commentors on TV said, “This (lie) might be (lead to) the fall of Democracy.” Because that was controversial, but it wasn’t true. At least not yet. There was nothing wrong, with our American vote counting system. In fact, it was probably the best in the world. At least it was.

But words have power. Power beyond what is even understood about them. Which is why I am concerned. Because what happened is that candidates have now put doubt into the election results, before the actual election. And election officials have been harassed and some have resigned. Making the lie become true or at least truer than it was, when the lie was initially told.

This lie is upsetting. Because the group of people that lied do have some valid opinions and viewpoints. In fact, we all have valuable experiences and beliefs at least on some issues. And all our viewpoints need to be heard. But to question the validity of an election result, and then act in a way that destroys the voter counting system. To question the validity of an election before it happens. That is a threat to democracy. And people that do that, should not be elected officials, no matter how right their viewpoints and perspectives are on other issues.

This is upsetting, because both parties have valuable viewpoints and opinions. But if one of the party lies about the validity of elections, they are destroying faith in the system. Remember, when we had to convince people that their vote matters, because they are one among many. Now, we doubt that our vote matters because it may not be counted. At least that is what some want us to believe. Do not believe the lie? Vote on November 8^th. Let your vote be heard. Liars that make us a less democratic country (not as in Democrats vs. Republicans) should never be rewarded!

Protect Our Children-Keep Cell Phones Away from Children and Teens!

Don’t blame the children! Don’t blame the young people for their behavior! Blame the adults and mostly blame technology. Sure you are supposed to be 18 to visit a porn site, but are there really any safeguards to prevent kids from viewing porn? And I started with the worst thing, but I’m sure social media isn’t good for kids. It’s not really even good for adults-at least in my opinion. Smart phones have made us all dumber. The way our society works is, technology and discipline have made Tom Brady have a great football career. And maybe made him even better. But all the people watching football on tv have gotten dumber, lazier, and fatter because of the technology we have.

We need to protect our kids and our young people from technology. If I try to use arguments to prove that technology is bad. Here me out on this one. Technology is the reason we are all fatter. Between tv, air conditioning, and central heat, our bodies don’t need to work as hard to regulate our temperature-warm blooded people, and we move less than we used to move- a lot less. So technology has made us fatter, and our lives worse because of it. Think Diabetes or just morbidly obese people.

We are dumber because of technology. Sure we have all the facts, but technology makes things too easy for us. And fine, adults can use smart phones and look at porn. But kids should not. We should make sure they don’t have access to these devices, that make our lives easy and make us dumb and lazy.

Ok, maybe just lazy, but let’s protect our young people from social media and porn. Let’s ban smart phones for those under 18, but at the same time, not spend any money on enforcing this law! (Get my drift…. So, it’s a law, that schools can enforce, but not law enforcement agency. We don’t know what goes on inside a home and that’s fine. But we need to protect young people from bad things. And I don’t think we-as a society and country- are doing a very good job of it!

Ban smart phones to those under 18!

Stand Up to Trump

 

Stand up to Trump

I totally understand why Trump has power. Because of fear. People are afraid, when they get death threats. Crazy people send death threats. Trump supporters, almost by definition, are crazy or at the least not very rational thinkers in some ways. You've got to assume that at least 1 in 1000 Trump Supporters would send death threats. Maybe 1 in 500,000 from someone randomly drawn from the entire population. Agree with those numbers? Too low? Too high? I don't know people that send death threats, but I know they get sent.

So not only would you get a bunch of death threats, Trump is also connected to Russia. And the Russians are really good at the whole killing the opposition peoples. So, you’d get death threats from crazy Trump supports with the Russia know-how to kill people very skillfully and creatively. I can’t think of any reason, why you shouldn’t be afraid to stand up to Trump from this logic.

For the one in twelve: Fantasy Football and Mental Health Hotline

For the One in Twelve

Are you a professional athlete with stress? You feel there is too much pressure on you to perform? You must love fantasy sports then. Where people make money on your performance, benefitting from all the work you put in, just by drafting you on their team.

In Football, every week, about 1 in 12 fantasy players want you to have game of your life. (and 1 in 12 really want you to lay an egg). But I think we can all come together on this issue. Well maybe we can’t. 11 in 12 of every fantasy football players are happy you got in a car accident, drove drunk, got injured, got arrested, can’t perform at your best for whatever reason. Because you aren’t on their team.

Only your fantasy owners care about you. 1 in 12. .0833, 8.33% of the fantasy population. The numbers actually say, because of fantasy, way more people are rooting against you, than for you. Sorry about that!!

But here, we have compassion, and let you know that even though only 1 in 12 fantasy players are really rooting for your success, as a role model, we ask you to please live responsibly and make sure to keep your body in shape, no injuries this season.

I would raise money so that the fantasy players can help the professional players with mental health issues, but that’s like asking the poor to give to the rich. And I know you are not like Donald Trump. He’s one of a kind! Thankfully!!!

So instead, I’ve created a hotline. Actually, I haven’t one has already been created.

Are you a professional athlete needing advice or stuck in pickle? Feeling like you might go up to 126 mph when you drive your car? Drunk a lot and thinking you’ll get behind the wheel? Having thoughts of dragging your wife into the elevator? Taking a stick to your kid? Hitting your wife? Taking more painkillers than you really need? Speeding reckless until your car crashes into someone, needlessly ending their life, cause you are an ass?

Please don’t. Call 988, the new mental health hotline. Save your season! For the 1 in 12! (12 teams are generally in one fantasy league, hence the 1 in 12 for fantasy football.)

Ok. Reading this. I realize that the suicide hotline, might not be the right number to call. Are you a professional athlete that is worthy of being on a fantasy team? (Sorry Craig Breslow. but appreciate your charity philanthropy work!)

Think you are going to make a bad decision. Call. 1-800-DO-RIGHT 1-800-367-4448 or 1-800-NO-WRONG 1-800-669-7664. Operators are standing by. Use your credit card and pay extra to talk to one of models, otherwise you'll probably be talking to a fantasy football player (male).

 Let us help you to call an Uber or remind you to just get out an take a walk. (make sure you identify yourself as an professional athlete upon being approached, let's not have another Travon Martin situation, as you walk to cool off (emotionally) in your gated community). 

Picking between two girls, and they are not into a ménage a trois. One of our fantasy studs will come and meet you, so you can pawn off the uglier one. Though no guarantees, some women are weird (self-loathing) and won't actually want to date a professional athlete. (They do, they just don't, don't ask questions, but even accountants need dates! So thank you professional athletes for not taking all the women!). 

Financial Advice related to Financial Advisors. From yours truly!

“Reading articles on the internet (Yahoo Finance/Marketplace). I’ve lost 20%, or I’ve lost $70,000 in the market this year. Should I fire my financial advisor?”

No, you are a moron. It is better you are not managing your own money! If you knew the market is down 20% this year, you wouldn’t have asked the question. Everyone, ok almost everyone, is down about 20% this year. Most people know why and don’t blame their financial advisor! 

Keep your head in the sand, where it belongs!! (in response to your money in the market, especially money managed by someone else)!! Let your financial advisor do their job, assuming you did a good job of vetting them in the first place.

I’m down 20% too. The only difference is I don’t pay a fee to someone else to manage my money.

Bravery and 2022

We need to be brave. We want to be brave. So be brave! 

I get it we are Americans and we can’t be the police and justice for the world. But if we want to be great. Don’t we have to? I mean it’s easier to interfere in affairs far away, than close up right? We’ve had a year and a half of Biden. And we haven't been exactly number one.

We need to brave. We need to stand up to Bullies. Even if the bullies have nuclear weapons. We need to take risks (calculated). We can’t back down! 

We feel bad when we do- back down. And we tell ourselves we did the right thing, even though it doesn’t feel good. But is it the right thing? 

If we want to be the number one country, we have to act like we are the number one country. And that’s what we want, right? More than anything, to be number one? Not to let someone else bully us around even though it is not at the expense of our own people? Or should we do what we did, with economic warfare with Russia and Ukraine?

Abortion Law

Roe v. Wade became legal and was celebrated not because people felt like abortion was good or right. The reason Roe v. Wade became legal, was that many women, mostly young women, either died or had permanent damage when they had illegal abortions. Recently R v. W law was overturned. But that is not the end.

The end is that an Abortion Law will be passed by Congress and signed into law by the president. Remember to vote for pro-choice candidates on November 8, 2022. Make your voices heard, by supporting Pro-Choice Congress candidates and senators!

We need to raise the Age to buy guns and assault rifles

Gun violence is a problem in America. It causes distress in every school in addition to the lives lost. Schools all across the country, prepare students for potential gun violence with active shooter drills.   Now some middle school students tease each other saying, if there is a mass shooter “You will be the one shot.”

Gun violence and just the threat of gun violence affects the quality of education of students and schools across the country.

And apart what a very small percentage of conservatives say, education is really important. We can’t fly airplanes, launch satellites, or have a society without having an educated work force.  Anyone that says differently is mistaken and delusional. We as a society are weaker, because of how gun violence effects schools and education.

So, if you don’t think we need to do something about gun violence, because it only happens, what a couple of times a week or it doesn’t happen in your community, you are not just letting school teachers and students die, you are also affecting the education of students everywhere in America.  

We need to be making the world a better place. One thing we can do is to raise the age of guns to 21, so these potential gun shooters, that are not fully emotionally developed can’t buy guns. Yes, we won't necessarily eliminate all school shootings, but why would we not take action, when raising the gun laws will save lives.

Due to the education level of the shooter at Robb Elementary School, the gun laws required to buy any gun, but especially high-capacity assault rifles on a National level, should require a high school diploma or turning age 21. This does not mean all guns are banned and you and your kid can't go hunting anytime. But it is beyond ridiculous if a law raising the legal age to buy a hand gun or an assault rifle to 21 or a high school diploma does not get passed.

Big Island of Hawaii-Day Two

 The Coffee Shack, Magics Beach Grille, and the Fish and the Hog

We traveled from our resort on the Kohala Coast up to Waimea to grab some fruit at the Farmer’s Markets in town. Waimea is in the foothills of the Volcanoes and has an elevation of our 3,000. It was cool and misty when we got there. We made it to one of their farmer’s markets at the end of the market, but were unable to find any fruit. They had a lot of stands of fresh made food, coffee, chocolate, and art. But no tropical fruit. We rush to another market, that was closing down, and missed out on any fruit they had.

Yelp has at least three four (or four and a half) star restaurants in Waimea. Merriman’s a fancy farm to table restaurant, at which reservations are required. Hawaiian Style Café-which takes no credit cards, and The Fish and the Hog. We drove by the Fish and the Hog on the way to the last farmer’s market, and so decided to stop by there. 

It was the nicest completely indoor dining we had on the west side of the big island.  They were out of poke (Hawaiian version of sushi), so I ordered a brisket sandwich and my better half ordered the fresh fish of the day. The food lived up to the high Yelp reviews, and the side of ranch, might be one of the best flavored Ranch dressings I’ve ever tasted. We chose the Fish and the Hog, because of their accepting of credit cards, but it was one of the best quality of food to cost values outside of the Hilo (East) side of the island.

Then we drove an hour south to tour a coffee plantation and get Lilikoi cheesecake at the Coffee Shack. On the way, we stopped a highly recommended chocolate shop- Donkey Balls, and got overpriced chocolate balls centered with macadamia nuts and peanut butter that we still haven’t eaten. The name definitely appeals to the juvenile nature, but the prices require some sort of professional employment. After buying our Donkey Balls. We then went to Greenwell farms for a free coffee tour and tasting.

Jet, our Emory college student/tour guide, went over the coffee making process from coffee tree to bean roasting, with the enthusiasm of someone high on coffee (as well as the caffeine of the coffee). We tasted many different styles of Hawaiian coffee, and found out a way they make decaf without chemicals. For the price, (Free) a great tour. We bought some Hawaiian salt, but no coffee. Since we aren’t regular coffee drinkers and the coffee is not priced at a discount.

After Greenwell farms we drove down the road to the Coffee Shack. Perched a couple of thousand feet up in elevation, with a view down to the coast and the Blue Central Pacific Ocean. We came for the Lilikoi Cheesecake, (Lilikoi-Passionate Fruit), but looking at the pies in the window, the Cream pies looked enticing. At the behest of our waiter, we ordered the chocolate cream pie over the coconut one and were not disappointed. We had views of the Pacific, and spotted our first gecko. Apparently, geckos are very common on the big island, and we definitely saw our fair share of them.

After eating pie, what did we do? Head straight down to the Ocean and the restaurant with our dinner reservation. Cause that's how we roll. We got there an hour early, but Magics Beach Grill, honored our reservation early. We had a view of Magics Beach, and the sunset. The food was good, but the view was spectacular. One thing about the big island, not so many sandy beaches. So much so, that I am not sure Magics Beach wasn’t man-made. But there must have been fifty plus people out in the waves: body surfing, a few snorkelers, and a couple of swimmers. It was definitely a scene. We missed out on any surfing beaches on this trip, so this was the closest. Watching all the body surfers and their joy at Magics Beach was definitely one of my best memories of the Big Island. We also ate delicious poke nachos, a mushroom flatbread, and got a free dessert of three Tropical Dreams ice cream flavors, mango, strawberry, and vanilla. One of the perks of saying we are on a Honeymoon. 

After Magics Beach Grille, we headed back to our resort, at the Fairmont Orchid (affordable thanks to a Costco Travel Promotion bought during the peak of Covid), and caught the end of the sunset and our second full day on the island of Hawaii.

Naomi Osaka and the French Open

This is my interpretation of what might have happened to Naomi Osaka, the female tennis player that withdrew from the French Open. Initially, she refused to talk to the press there. Then she was fined. Then she withdrew from the tourney. A grand slam event. One of the big four tennis tournaments, that people (historians) really care about. No offense to all the other tennis tournaments that aren’t as important.  

This opinion piece is based on my own experience with therapy, and mental health issues, and is not fact. I realize, after four years of a Trump presidency, putting this out there, even with the warning that this might not have been what happened, won’t matter to some of you. But that’s even more important, why I am sharing this. You-depending on who you are- might believe anything you read. At least you are exposed to what I think.

When Naomi Osaka, announced she wouldn’t be available for an interview after the French Open, because of Mental Health Issues, I was to be honest disappointed. Then the French Open fined her, $15,000, and she withdrew from the tournament. I was really disappointed. I don’t want to be dismissive of mental health issues. But at the same time, both men and women, need for lack of a better word, “balls.” Or assertiveness, or overcoming adversity. No one tells the story of someone that doesn’t speak or avoids doing an important task.

First, let me tell you how-I think- it went down. Naomi to her therapist. “I think I would do better in the tournament if I didn’t have to talk to the press.” Therapist: “what would happen if you refused to talk to the press? That sounds like a good boundary you could put up.”

 Therapists for some reason, usually tell you to be more selfish. As if most of the problems, we cause ourselves, is that we are not selfish, enough. I don’t know if that’s true, I don’t think that’s true. Sure, for some people, that might be true, but definitely not others. Some people might need to be selfish. Some might need more balls. Balls to find out that the world is not the scary place they think it is. If you never venture out, you’ll never discover, how fucking friendly, most people are. Even in New York. They are just pretending to not care and not notice. Its’ fucking New York, and people know how to act, when in New York. It doesn’t mean anything. Just like being friendly in certain parts of the country, don’t mean anything. Although in the Midwest, they generally do.

 But that’s what therapists do. For the most part they tell you to be more selfish. Maybe not in couples therapy, but definitely in individual therapy. “You don’t want to talk to the press?,” well, “you-he or she will suggest-can refuse to talk to the press.”

Obviously for Naomi, talking to the press was difficult. So instead of the therapist, saying, “Why do you find talking to the press difficult?” and getting to the root cause of this. Maybe it is perfectionism. Maybe she thinks she’s hiding something. And by not putting herself out there, and discovering, that people accept people as who they are, for the most part. Especially successful female athletes. And while it is tough for Naomi to talk to the press, maybe that’s exactly why she needs to do it. People don’t write stories or make tv shows or movies, about people that avoid difficult things. We write stories and honor those, who do difficult things. And if Naomi finds talking to the press, more difficult than winning tennis matches. Maybe she should focus on that. Maybe even practice that. Maybe she is a good tennis player, but g-d’s plan for her is to be a tennis commentator or a politician. And if she avoids talking to the press, that will never happen.

The therapist- again I’m projecting here- chose to help her avoid her “difficulty” instead of facing it. And yes, I’m blaming the imaginary therapist, that might not really exist for Naomi’s decision.

But if you don’t put yourself out there and do the difficult thing, you won’t grow.  You’ll just get stuck. Maybe that’s why the therapist suggested that-avoiding the press, as opposed to investigate why Naomi didn’t like talking to the press. Did she practice talking to the press? maybe she should. Maybe the therapist could get at the root of why Naomi was so uncomfortable, and let her know that it is ok to be awkward-occasionally, that she didn’t have to be perfect.

Because-maybe secretly and subconsciously- the therapist gave her that advice, didn’t truly really want to help Naomi, because the therapist was afraid of losing her as a patient. And if you give too good of advice as a therapist, your patients will realize they don’t mostly don’t need therapy, they often just need “balls”. And you’ll (the therapist if you do a good job of helping people find theirs) will have to find more new patients.

I think it is important to acknowledge that things are difficult or unpleasant. But those difficult and unpleasant tasks, still need to be done. I get it. Talking to the press, especially with language barriers is hard. But it is something that professional athletes, need to do. It’s part of the “job.” And avoiding that doesn’t make you brave. 

At least people want to hear you speak. So speak! Be brave, Naomi! Because that’s what the world needs. Not another avoider of facing our own problems- like lots of people, so I project.

California Fire Season Hotel Advertisement- For Smokers

Newscast: With the recent brush fire near Vacaville, the air quality is horrendous. Being outside is obviously, really bad for your lungs. I hear experts saying being outside with this air quality for 15 minutes is the equivalent damage to your lungs of smoking five cigarettes.

Hotel commercial: California fire season deals! If you are a smoker from out of state, come stay at our hotel. Discounted rates for smokers. Not only can you save on our hotel rates during Fire season, but you’ll also save on cigarettes!  Just no smoking in the building. Our air quality is so bad, being outside for an hour is the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes.  Just make sure to go outside for your smoke breaks and breathe deeply, no cigarettes required!

Note, Cigarettes are not included in this deal, but our terrible air quality is on the house. Stay in our smoking rooms for less ventilation and even worse air quality than our standard nonsmoking rooms. The memories you have from your stay will be priceless!

Please note, if the air quality gets into the extremely hazardous zone, some outside activities might be cancelled.

Warning the air quality can seriously damage your lungs, but our hotel nor the state of California are not liable for future lung problems like emphysema or lung cancer. Also, forest fires can be deadly, you’ll want to make sure to book a hotel down wind from the fires, but not too close to them, in case the wind pattern changes.

Smokers come to California during Fire Season, save on hotel rates and cigarettes! Of course, you’ll have to find some other way to look cool and sophisticated, if you choose not to smoke, but being the suave and cosmopolitan person you are, we are sure you’ll think of something.

Day One Before S.I.P: Shelter-In-Place

Day One Before the Shelter:

This is my first post. I hope to post more in the future, but I do have other commitments. 

Today sometime around noon, Bay Area counties ordered a shelter-in-place for the next few weeks. This is the greatest challenge for our generation, claimed an elected official. He is talking for the Health Care professionals, I hope.

Or maybe he is saying that because all sports seasons have been cancelled, I think? Because our gyms will be closed? Because we won’t have to sit in commute traffic? Because we will be forced to be on our computers and watch tv and spend time with the people we live with?

I am sorry if you just joined a gym and were planning to finally improve your life. You will need to find a way to work out, without a gym, like everyone else that normally workouts at a gym. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we can hike. But I’m sure you can find an online workout class if you need it. What a great time to have bought a Peleton.

If this corona virus had happened, but in a different world, and the NBA and March Madness wasn’t affected, most people would get through the shelter-in-place watching basketball and maybe betting too much. The question now is how are the new sports betting companies doing? And the casinos? Do they have a rainy day fund to survive a few months with no sports betting? Anyone want to make a bet about which casinos will fold or consolidate?

If you binged watched before the shelter-in-place, well you can still binge watch after the shelter-in-place. I’m guessing we have enough TV shows and movies to survive a four-year trip to Mars. Even if you did binge watch a bunch before, I’m guessing you can still binge watch now.  I/we still have the final season and a half of Homeland. We’ve been pacing. We have to finish it before May, when our cheap Showtime trial, thanks to American Express, runs out.

Maybe the fall season TV overall won’t be as good. But, I’m pretty sure all the TV shows of the next few months have already been taped. And movies won’t be affected at all. The virus will be way over, by the time it would affect the abundance of TV shows and movies-at least in my opinion.

Hopefully, you read. I have a bunch of books I haven’t read on my book shelf, tons of magazines I refused to throw out. I even have two books from the library that I am instructed not to return until it is confirmed I don’t have the virus. So I can finally catch up on my reading.

If you play video games, before, I guess this is a great time to play video games again. Maybe I’ll start again - I but I hope to do more productive things. Although the real reason, I don’t play video games anymore is that I am not that good at them they got too advanced for me.

Lastly, the commute. Every day in the bay area commuting is, let’s just say, ridiculous. I know at least two people that commuted two hours each way. How is it bad that they have to work from home for a couple of weeks? We spend so much of our time commuting, it will be nice to have more time.

I understand, people are concerned that we can’t handle this forced shelter-in-place isolation. I understand if you are a health care worker and exposed to the virus on a regular basis. I’ve got elderly parents. I frankly don’t quite see what all the fuss is about - not about the virus, but the shelter-in-place. I think our society, may be too prepared for this. All the binge TV watching. Video games galore, which you can stream. Podcasts.

But I do think for some, this would be a great time to test Andrew Yang’s idea of giving every citizen $1,000 a month. See how it works. I think the thing some people are most scared about is money. And maybe most of us, should take a forced stay-cation, so you can home school or just spend some quality time with your kids, or catch up on house work. I don't see the point of working now, if it is not necessary.

One final note, we are all praying that the internet doesn’t get overloaded. Or you get ransomware. So I’ll end with a warning.

This shelter-in-place would be a terrible time to have a ransomware attack on your computer or a cyber attack. Please be very careful. Don’t answer unknown phone numbers. If it is important, they will leave a message. If someone is sending you an email with anything that might be a phishing email. Send it to phishing-report@us-cert.gov or you can just forward it to someone you don’t like. Be very careful with your computer usage. It would be a shame to have ransomware or a computer virus at this time. Especially if you are working from home.

Viagra or Cialis

I joked with my friends that Robert Kraft probably took Cialis or Viagra for his “massage” for which he got busted today. Even if not true, if winning a Super Bowl at 77 means you don’t need Cialis or Viagra to get it up. Pfizer or Lilly should use Robert Kraft in as a featured spokesman in a new commercial.

Robert Kraft says: “When you go to the “massage” parlor and want the extra special happy ending. You want to make sure you get your money’s worth, take “Cialis”. Satisfaction guarantee or your money back.” Disclaimer: In most states prostitution is illegal, if you happen to go when the undercover agents are making a bust, it might ruin your reputation, embarrass your wife and family, and not be that very happy of an ending after all.

Kraft is friends with Donald Trump. Trump has an opportunity to help out his friend. In the past couple of years, we’ve legalized marijuana, and sports betting. Maybe we can legalize prostitution as well?

When I am 77 and my team wins the Super Bowl, if I want to have sex with a young, attractive woman to celebrate, I might not want to divorce my wife and marry a gold digger. I might just want to go the massage parlor and pay less than desperate fools pay at a strip club, and have a discrete rendezvous with an attractive, younger woman. (Maybe I'll prefer being with a forty something then. And I'll not want to worry about being arrested for paying for sex, and be the big, embarrassing news story of the day.)

The problem with prostitution isn’t that men are paying women for sex, (Money is better spent on experiences than things, right?)  It is that some of the women aren’t really women, they are under 18, and many of both the woman and girls, are not there voluntarily. Then there’s the whole pimp thing, and madam thing, and many of the women prostituting don’t get their fair share of the wages earned either. (You know the wage gap is a big problem in the sex industry, right, being that women pretty much deserve all the money, and may not be paid accordingly.)

By legalizing prostitution, a la Nevada. (each state can decide whether to legalize it or not- just like sports betting and weed) as a society we can better solve the whole human trafficking side of prostitution, and men can legally visit a brothel, when they are 77 to celebrate a Super Bowl win and not get arrested and make front page news.

Of course, if we tax the shit out of it, then most of it will stay underground. Just like weed has in California, and that will defeat the purpose. 

Trump help out your buddy Kraft, and make prostitution legal. I can totally see you running a brothel. You would promise, “only 9’s or 10’s here”, but once one paid, you'd bring women that were only 4s and 5s. (You being the “good” businessman.)

 I am only 43 now, so I am pretty sure prostitution will be legal when I am 77, I am more worried about global warming and massive storms and droughts, and I am sure that will be true when I am 77 too, but Trump your legacy:

A president that sleeps with porn stars and Playboy Playmates, and marries models would be a fitting president to make prostitution legal. Make pot and prostitution legal federally and I’ll support you to help you build your very, very important wall. (Who really cares that much about those Mexican wolves and other animals that might need to go back and forth across the border now, right?)

A Justice Mirage

I always thought that because I could write that I had a voice, that could potentially change the world (meaning influence the behavior or thoughts of others-that being you). Of course, these days we write on computers, which are connected to the internet with the temptations of the world: YouTube videos, your brokerage account, and of course, porn. I promise myself that I will overcome those temptations and write. Because if I look at porn first, I won’t write. So that means, at least today, I didn’t give into that temptation.

My first article in this blog, will be about police violence. I will talk about policing in general, and one specific case.

My memories of police involve growing up in the Lamorinda area of California were positive. I was old for my grade, being that I turned 16 as a freshman, and was driving before everyone else. I would get called to give people rides, and the summer before my sophomore year, I chauffeured many a group of friends around- I’d like to think they were my friends- but I was the only one around with a car. Occasionally, a cop seeing that there was a car full of young people, being driven by someone, who passed for 12, as recently as one or two years previously, pulled us over. I never got a ticket in the Lamorinda area. I probably should have, but the cops, saw my license and my address, saw seven young people in the car, and still decided not to write a ticket. Once when I was driving home late at night, I made a right on a red, coming off 24, turning right onto Moraga Way. That was when I was 22, feeling old and nostalgic about not living in the Lamorinda area. There is no reason for me to take the exit and drive through Moraga on my way home.  Of course, at 3 a.m. on that Saturday or Sunday morning, I got pulled over. Again the cop didn’t give me a ticket. I attribute this to living in Lafayette, and being a local, because every time that I’ve been pulled over outside the Lamorinda area, I have gotten a ticket. But cops can definitely be nice. I know from experience.

Of course, I have heard the opposite, and know when you are a “stranger,” cops don’t necessarily give you any leniency. I have heard stories about cops, abusing their power, or thinking that they are above the law, pulling over people and ending up arresting them for no good reason. We have checks and balances in place. So this shouldn’t happen, and this-the US- isn’t a corrupt country, like Mexico, in which you have to pay off cops to avoid jail time. (Although I worry that our current federal administration head, would not have that much problem with that kind of society- but that is pure speculation).

Every week it seems there is an incident in involving a police killing. Occasionally a police officer gets shot too. But I get the feeling that lethal force, isn’t always just used, when absolutely necessarily. I can think of a Danville, California shooting, of a mentally ill man, in his car. I wasn’t there, but I imagine that the police officer could have gotten out of the way of the car, instead of killing the mentally ill man driving in the car and claiming self-defense.

This blog was inspired about a specific recent police killing incident. What follows is the current public knowledge (thanks to "real" news) : Around Friday September 7^th, an off-duty officer, Amber Guyger, in Dallas, Texas, mistakenly entered the wrong apartment. She thought she was entering her own apartment, and found a black man, Botham Jean, a consultant, in the kitchen. She shot and killed the man. Public outrage ensued. Amber was fired from the police force.  On September 28^th, she was charged with manslaughter. Justice seemed to be in the process of being served. The police officer was fired and looked to receive jail time.

However, this Friday, November 30^th, her charges were changed to murder. Murder in Texas, means that there was intent. Manslaughter means a “reckless action” caused a death. People that claim that our society is racist, might be happy about this sentence. Finally,  an officer is charged with murder for killing an innocent, hard-working, educated, white-collar black man. However, this grand jury is “racist.” Or if they were not-racist, “naive, ignorant, or way too optimistic about our society (pick any or all)"

The reason is, that as far as we know, Ms. Amber Guyger , didn’t know  Botham. If she did, that would be different. She came home from long day's work, went into the wrong apartment, and shot a man that she thought was an intruder, in self-defense. This is another example of Police Officers using lethal force, when they “probably” don’t need to- which is a common theme in our society of late. But is this specific incident murder? Did she intentionally just kill a man? I don’t think so, between self-defense and lack of intent, I don’t think she should be found guilty of murder and most likely won't. She shouldn’t be accused of murder. It is in her interest that she does. She will be found "not guilty." She did commit manslaughter. She should serve time. You don’t kill someone unless absolutely necessary, even as a Peace officer. Not that this is how Police Officers are acting, but this should be the rule of police killings. Was lethal force absolutely necessary? From my perspective, so many times in a police killing the answer is "no."

Clearly, this situation, could have been handled with words. The victim, probably didn’t even have a gun in his whole apartment. Fuck, I bet he made more money from his job, than the officer did.

But if Ms. Amber Guyger is charge with murder, she will be found “not guilty.” If you want justice to be served, her charge needs to be manslaughter. Unless of course, you don’t want her to serve time. There is no "cause" for a murder charge. The intent is not there. Don’t think this murder charge is good news for justice or for the fight against racism. It is just the opposite. We should be protesting this decision to have the officer charged with murder, not celebrating it.

Three incidents of equal proportion?

Greetings loyal followers and others lucky enough to read this fantastically enchanting blog post,

In the past three days, we bombed Syria because they were caught using chemical weapons-poison gas, there was a murder-suicide at an elementary school in the same county in California as a terrorist attack that happened two years ago, and United Airlines dragged a passenger off a flight, because they needed a seat.

For the first time, I’m happy with what Trump did. I am happy we bombed Syria. Sure, we won’t necessarily make the situation better if we remove Assad-see Saddam Hussein and Iraq- but at least we are doing something. (And Hussein didn’t wind up even having chemical weapons). I think while we deal with our first world problems here in the States, millions in the Middle East are struggling to survive.  My solution, no one’s ask, but get some cruise ships (not to be confused with cruise missiles), hook them up with secret cameras all over the ship,Halal food, and US state apartment officials.

We would fill the ship with refugees-obviously we would have to screen their persons and belongings when they board. The secret cameras would be to monitor the refugees to make sure that no bombs or weapons were created on the ship- this might appease the fear mongers, and offend the more freedom oriented persons of our country- and not look good if it came out- so really “secret” cameras. We would provide Halal food, since most of the refugees are Muslim, and others can eat the food as well. And the State department can vent all the refugees, and decide if they can add to the United States economy- and those that can, can live anywhere, or if they can’t they need to settle in a part of United States that needs people, like Alaska or inner city Detroit, or rural America- those places that voted for Trump even though most of the people there get government handouts or were in a low tax bracket (even with the Democrats running things).

It would be a way for the first world luxuries-like Cruise ships- to help people not so fortunate.  I can see the headline now “Cruise Ships” not Cruise Missiles help bring peace to the Middle East.   

My assessment of the United incident and the murder-suicide in San Bernardino are not so optimistic-even though they are first world problems-and there is much more reason to believe that these issues will have a happy ending to those that are still alive.

 I think it is important to remember, how are far we have a come as a country, and as a civilization. According to famous evolutionary biologist Jared Diamond, in some hunter gather societies, if male strangers met, they would first figure out if they had any common relatives, if not that would either fight to the death, or have to run away. We are now so evolved, that if a stranger even gives us a bad look, we will probably be offended.  Some now might even be offended that a stranger wasn’t nice enough to them-and he/she was trying to be nice!

I do think there is an expectation for niceness in our society- and I don’t think it is a bad thing. The fact that you can go on an airline and not be dragged off a flight physically for no fault of your own is a boundary that United shouldn’t have crossed. It is not civilized, and not safe-from an emotional let alone physical point of view. United is not only not “friendly”, they are the airline that might physically remove you from the flight if they don’t get enough volunteers to be bumped. This is America, everyone has a price. Maybe $800 wasn’t enough, but I’m guessing that $1200 would have been. And if they went to $1600 and no one volunteered, the pilot should have said, you are all too stupid, this flight won’t take off with you on it, we decided to cancel the flight. We will let only United employees fly on this plane, because the plane is needed to be in Louisville tomorrow, and the rest of you can drive! Five hours of drive time is realistic. You can get from Chicago to Louisville in 4 hours- if you average 80 mph and don’t stop.

 But no one, without acting out, should ever be removed from a flight like that.  The question to you, how low will United have to price their flights to get you to use them? $1 less than other airlines? $50? $100? Name the price. I want to get back at United’s idiot Chicago employees, I’m guessing they didn’t consult the CEO before taking action- but really, should I let my Mileage Plus miles expire in protest?

As for the San Bernardino shootings, I’ll discuss in a future post. Two posts in one day are enough for George. In fact he usually does the minimum, so you’ve already gotten a treat.

Little prizes are important too!

Greetings followers of this blog:

I last posted, I was hoping and praying that Donald Trump, would not be our next president. I thought he wouldn’t, but I was worried. And now he is the president. People really don’t like Hillary. A lot of the dialogue is such. She screwed up in her campaign and didn’t visit enough of rural America.

 But you’d think with a presidential candidate like Trump, that he wouldn’t get as much Republican support.  He did. This turned out to be a fairly typical election. Republicans voted for Trump 88-90% to 8% or so for Hillary. Democrats voted for Hillary 88-90% vs. 8% or so for Trump.

In 2012, Democrats were 38% of the vote. Republicans: 32%. In 2016, it was Democrats 36% and Republicans 33%. Independents in both election years tended to favor the Republican candidate.  So, the main take-away from this election is not as many Democrats showed up to the polls as in 2012. 

In Wisconsin and Pennsylvania there were key House of Representatives that where held by Democrats and went unchallenged. Wisconsin’s 3^rd district and Pennsylvania’s 13^th. There is talk that the Presidential races determines the “lesser” races, but maybe in this year, it worked the other way.

People voted for the lesser of the two evils in this campaign for President, and maybe some democrats didn’t get out to vote in those house districts, in which there was no republican candidate, because the house representative in those districts just needed one vote to win.

Also, big senate or governor races might increase the voting turnout. In New Hampshire and Nevada, the Senate race was won by the Democratic candidate. Nevada also legalized recreational marijuana. Both states voted for Clinton. In Arizona, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, and Wisconsin all held senate races, that went to the Republican candidate. These senate candidates beat their Democratic challenger, by a larger margin that Trump won the presidential vote in each state. So Trump won on the coattails of these senators, not the other way around!

Arizona failed to legalize weed, but agreed to raise the minimum wage, but still voted Republican.  North Carolina apparently didn’t get the memo and also had a governor’s race this year, the only one in all of the swing states. This surprisingly went to the Democratic challenger.

While it seemed that Trump and Clinton were not the typical candidates, perhaps, they forced voters to do what they often do when faced with a difficult choice- vote down party lines. This year- as in most election years (and maybe more than other years) the senate races and ballot measures had more of say in who turned out to vote. And who turned out to vote, not how they voted, seemed to make all the difference. The big anomaly was how the Republican North Carolina governor lost to a democratic challenger, when the rest of the state went red. It was because he passed that controversial bill that allowed discrimination of gays, and forced transgender people to use the bathroom of the gender they were born in. And the NBA pulled its All Star game out of the state. At least the Democrats got this one. Although they still didn’t win the senate race or that state’s presidential electoral votes.

Maybe the Democrats need to not just focus on the presidential election, but on the senate candidates that they put out-especially in the swing states.  Most people didn’t want either Trump or Clinton in the White House this year. But in pretty much all the swing states, they preferred the Republican senator to the Democratic senator. This has to change. The presidency isn’t everything (famous last words), but it is especially true, if there isn’t also a favorable Congress with which to work.

Hopefully we will survive the next few years, without them being as bad as people worry, and going forward we won’t just focus on the big prize, but all the little prizes too.

Donald Trump finally goes down

Who would think that Donald Trump finally would go down (at least that's what the national media is telling us).

To get to the national stage, Trump popularized the birther movement, claiming that President Barack Obama was not a native born U.S. citizen. I'm not sure if Trump was not aware that yes, Hawaii, is a state in the United States, and that his mother was from Kansas. Trump demanded that Obama, the president of the United States, show is birth certificate to the public. In what many thought was a very racist act. While with a certain population this was a turn off, surprisingly with others this was a plus.

Then in 2015 Trump announced he was running for president. Many thought this was a joke. Trump has no political experience, is a note-worthy businessman for good and bad reasons, and has a very abrasive personality.

In case you were on Mars and didn't have access to any media. One of Trump's first campaign promises was that he was going to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico and have the Mexicans pay for this wall. While even many of supporters thought this would never actually happen, it was one of Trump's brilliant moves that earned him the Republican nominee for presidency. That and calling Jeb Bush "low energy."

Trump insulted Fox news anchor Megyn Kelly during one of the first Republican Primary debates. Refused to attend another. Yet this didn't slow down his campaign. It got to the point, where it seemed nothing could stop his campaign. He was gaining in the polls, to the point that it was a toss up between Hillary Clinton and him.

Then the first presidential debate occurred. Trump set his standards low, but surprisingly didn't even meet them. Then, the man who claimed he could "shoot someone on fifth avenue" and not lose support, did something unimaginable, but hoped by almost every reasonable citizen of our great country. He did something that lost him support.

He admitted that he groped women and it wasn't even recently.  In 2005, an entertainment reporter had Trump on a live mic, and Trump bragged about groping women. Trump thought he was a big celebrity, and could get away with it, or knowing how Trump is now, thought that the women enjoyed being groped by him. (Seeming how long it has taken for some of the women to come forward to complain, I could see how Trump might have been mistaken. For 11 years, Trump might have thought that these woman actually liked his groping.)

Trump was like a kid in a candy store, that was touching all the candy, even the candy he wasn't planning to buy, and even the candy that belonged to other kids. He thought he was a very important kid, who could get away with doing something like that. And then 11 years later, he found out, that all of that candy didn't like being touched. I'm sure some of that candy complained years ago. But that candy's voice was so small that it wasn't heard just by itself.  And touching candy you aren't supposed to touch, is a very big deal in American politics.

So now the presidential candidate, that labeled his competitors "Low Energy" or "Crooked", finally got a label himself. "Creepy" it might not rhyme as well as some of the labels he gave others, but it seemed to have stuck.

Of course, some of us, who disliked him because of his role in the Birther movement, his idea to build a wall with Mexico, his plan to not let any new Muslims settle in the country, his role in "Trump University", his business practices, I could probably name a few more reasons not to like Trump, his treatment of former Miss Universes. Anyhow, those of us, who strongly dislike the man, might be wondering if this "locker room" talk,  really will be the thing that finally sinks Trump.

It did happen 11 years ago for g-d sake. But we will take it.

Political Thoughts

When George W. Bush won the presidential election in 2000 and then again in 2004, I swore I would do everything in my power to make sure the Democrats won in 2008 and was pretty ecstatic when Barack Obama won the presidency in 2008. I told myself that I would just take the next four years off- from worrying about the direction of my country-with Obama in office.

To be frank, the older I get the more-moderate- or conservative I get. I went to Oberlin, a very liberal school, but pretty much right after college, I got disillusioned with the far left. In the Fall of 2000, I interned for a liberal political magazine based in New York City, which championed the battle of Gore v. W. Bush as Tweedle-Deed, vs. Tweedle-Dum, and told voters in non-battleground states to vote for Nader. I even went to a Nader rally in New York with my press pass. 

As an environmentalist, I never saw Gore as Tweedle-Deed, to Bush’s Tweedle-Dum, and when Gore lost Florida and the 2000 Election to the butterfly ballot, a poor ballot design or Florida seniors having a senior moment by less than 2000 votes with Nader receiving over 2000 votes in Florida, I became a political pragmatist overnight and abandoned a magazine that gave me my first internship.

I wasn’t for the Occupy Movement. Especially Occupy Oakland and I recently discovered, I hate anarchists. Just one death in Berkeley caused because the police needed to supervise the urban camping known as Occupy Oakland and couldn’t be at their full responsiveness and one thrown brick by an anarchist -even though it hit another protester- not to mention broken windows all over the place, made the Tea Party’ers look like, while politically disagreeable, decent people. Although, I’m not a fan of theirs politically either, I rather have a beer with a Tea Party’er, at least they don’t break glass.

The reason a Romney president worries me is because I don’t know what to expect. While Obama sounds pretty negative and Romney sounds good. I really don’t know where Romney stands on abortion, health care, the environment, or even tax cuts. Is he a conservative Republican or a moderate one? I wish I knew who he was before election day. What I do know about Romney, he’ll balance the budget by cutting Sesame Street and not raising taxes and be not that much different than Obama on foreign policy.

Euphemisms and The Occupy Movement

Note: some of this content may be offensive. If you think it is over the line, please let me know. Young readers should be reading Dr. Suess and not this. Older readers, but not yet adults, may find enjoyment in the Crazy Horse Electric Game, Stotan, S.E. Hinton's books, starting with the Outsiders, or other books for Young Adults-i.e Teenagers. Those trying to get into college, should read prose with bigger vocab words, such as books, by Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Kurt Vonnegut, D.H. Lawrence, James Joyce, among other serious novelists Those that only need to retake the SAT score, out of bets that they can repeat their perfect score and others with a B.A. can continue to read. Those still working on a BA or BS degree may should read with the following with discretion. And should stop if they feel melancholic or disenchanted.

First off, a lot has happened in my life over the past several months. At one point, I wanted to be a blogger-well really, I wanted to be a writer-who aspires to just blog? A writer that would write about anything and everything that has happened to him, to be able to write about the thoughts that if said, would make me cool, but if unsaid, make me awkward. (At least that's what I tell myself.) But since I realize, I may never have the guts to say things, at least I can write about... what I would say, if I was actually cool. I guess at my age, with my hairline, cool might be too high an aim. What's between being cool and a total loser? Alright? Ok, I hope to be alright.

So first the euphemism. You know why Macs are better than PCs? Well as Avenue Q says, "the Internet is for %&#". Well in a moment of weakness, during my finals week, while home with a project due and a final to study for, I put the web browser on private and... Low and behold caught some malware. I had thought you know with the internet at least you can't catch anything. Lo and behold, I caught, a virus. Hopefully, it is one that is curable.

 

 

All this time, I've been doing my "private" web viewing on a Mac and thought that all "private" red-district web browsing was safe, no harm no foul-safer than a bar. Who would know that you are probably less likely to catch a virus going to a bar and picking up some random woman, as long as you use protection, rather than visiting the "red-light district" on your PC. Pay $500 dollars more for a Mac to visit adult sites on a Mac without even needing to thing about safe procreation. They should put that in a Mac ad- at least in Playboy and other adult magazines. Buy a Mac and surf the internet's red-light districts and back alleys without fear or need of protection! The web on a Mac is like your (STD-free) girlfriend or wife on birth-control! No Protection needed!

 

 

Secondly, the occupy movement. Don't these people have jobs! Or they must have had them and are now living off their savings? I don't have savings, I've got schoolwork and I need to find a job. Yes, things aren't fair. But I've got to establish myself (at least financially, and maybe socially) in our society, and I don't have time to camp in a city park. If I'm going to go camping, I'm probably going to somewhere peaceful, serene, with good views. The only reason I'd go to the occupy camps would be to hook up with hippie chicks, but I've got a girlfriend. But, I do hear there is a lot of adult-only type activities going on in those camps.

 

 

The real positives about the occupy movement is that people are not talking about the tea party movement, at least as much. There is a Yang to the Tea Party's Yin. So, for this reason, I think the occupy movement has done a good job.

 

 

But stopping shipments to the port of Oakland, and other ports, really? I hope you aren't hurting a lot of people by doing that. You think the 1% can survive, a day without a port to unload packages? so do I. It is the 99% people that might be hurt- the small business owners. When you smash a Men's Warehouse window- you think George Zimmer, President of Men's Warehouse has to clean the glass and put in a new window? Or you think the store salesman, who makes less, and is paid based on commission-i.e. his own production, or the cleaning people- who might be illegals and are paid maybe minimum wage, clean up the broken glass and are affected by your attempt to harm the 1%. As if men in the 1% buy their suits at the Men's Warehouse!

 

 

I know what you'll say in response to this. That wasn't the occupy movement, that was the anarchists. They just see this as an opportunity for violence.

It's too bad the anarchists are smart enough to avoid getting pepper sprayed, unlike the UC Davis students. Just because the authority figures are wrong though. I.e. the police using too much force to distrupt the movement, doesn't make the occupy movement right. Two fools fighting are still two fools. One bad guy (authority figures using pepper spray unnecessarily) doesn't make the other good (the occupy movement).

But two movements on the opposite side of the political spectrum, does gives us some balance. A Yin and a Yang, no taxes vs. equal income, which is a good result of the occupy movement.

 

 

As I mentioned early, I've been too busy, completing my school work and looking for a job. But I guess in my self-interest, I should be happy about the Occupy movement, besides just on principle. People in the occupy movement, are not competing for the jobs I'm applying to, so for that I am thankful. Maybe I should hope more people join the occupy movement, at least until I, and every one else who would rather work, rather than camp in a city park and pretend they are part of a commune, occupy jobs.

 

 

As you probably guess, I will try, but not suceed in writing another blog before 2012, so on that note: Happy 2012! Obama in 2012! My wish for 2012 is the that Obama gets bigger..., hmmm. is a euphemism, really needed here, or does every Democrat know what Obama needs? I don't care which way Obama goes, center or left, as long as he goes there big.
